The Curatorial Department has responsibility for the safe storage and exhibition of works of art. The department is made up of curatorial units which include Canadian, Contemporary (later Contemporary/Photography), Decorative, Historical, Indigenous and Inuit Art. The Curatorial Department has responsibility for the Collections Management Department, the Preparation Departments (including functions of Production, Matting and Framing, Shipping, and Vault Technician), and the Conservation Department. The Photography Department has been part of the Curatorial Department since 1993. Extension Services were considered a part of the Curatorial Department until the mid 1970s. At that time, Extension Services was aligned with the Education Department. By 1984, the Curatorial Department was again given responsibility for Extension Services.

The records of Exhibits which include the creation of associated catalogues; the records of Extension Services; records of Gallery Registration. Other records relating to Curatorial/Exhibitions as may be selected for permanent preservation.
