Custodial history of the records of the Director’s Office for the period to 1972 is unknown. Since 1972, records known have been held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery until their transfer to the Archives.

The Director is the chief executive and operating officer and has responsibility for the general management and direction of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The Director is expected to assume responsibilities in the following areas: Programming and Curatorial; Operations; Human Resources; Community Relations; Fund-Raising and Relations with the Board of Governors. The Director reports to the Gallery's Board of Governors.
