Born in Winnipeg on 15 May 1948, to Constance White (1908-1999) and Richard Gilchrist Glover (1909-1985), Pat Bovey became an art historian and served as Curator (1970-1980) and Director (1999-2004) of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and as Director of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (1980-1999). She also founded and served as Director of the Buhler Gallery at St. Boniface General Hospital (2007-2016).
She was a member of the Board for the National Gallery of Canada (2005-2009) and Canada Council for the Arts (1990-1993), a member of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and Manitoba Rhodes Scholarship Committee, an Adjunct Professor of Art History at the University of Winnipeg (2011-2017), and Chair of the Board of Governors for the University of Manitoba (2013-2016). She served in the Senate of Canada (2016-2023). She is presently the Manitoba representative on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.
In recognition of her service, she was named a YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Award (2002) and a Manitoba Women Trailblazer (2021). She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba (2021), a 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation Medal (1992), and a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002). On 28 April 1973, she married John Alexander Bovey at Ottawa, Ontario and they had two daughters.
