Archival history
The Winnipeg Art Gallery Association was officially formed in 1932, taking over the gallery functions previously performed by The Winnipeg Gallery and School of Art. Shrinking funding severely reduced operations of the gallery in 1925, and while the gallery became dormant, the Schools activities went on under the governance of the Winnipeg Gallery and School of Art. The gallery re-emerged in the Civic Auditorium in 1932 under the Winnipeg Art Gallery Association. The Winnipeg Gallery and School of Art was still in existence, and there continued to be a relationship between the two, despite their distinct functions. The Association was replaced by the Winnipeg Art Gallery upon its incorporation in 1963.
