Fondo - Collections Management fonds

The Collections Management Department oversees WAG-Qaumajuq’s art collection. They are responsible for the storage, tracking and care of the institution’s art, library and archives. Previously referred to as Registration, the department was under the oversight of the Curatorial Department until 2002. It is now part of the Collections & Exhibitions department.
Today, WAG-Qaumajuq holds in trust the world’s largest public collection of modern and contemporary Inuit art. Other areas of note include historical and contemporary Canadian art, historical British and European art, decorative art, and photography.
The Collections Management Department works in conjunction with the Curatorial team on gallery exhibitions. Tasks include overseeing art handling, acquisitions, artwork photography, and tracking incoming and outgoing loans. All collection photography occurs under the oversight of the department, as the Photography Department was dissolved in 2013.
The department also oversees the process of acquiring new artworks into the collection, as well as deaccessioning process. They are in charge of the cataloguing and preservation of documents on all artworks in the collection. In 2017, the Collections Management Department took over the oversight of the library and archives, from under Learning and Programs. Additionally, the department provides guidance and materials for visiting students and researchers.
